    Boys Basketball wrapped up the division title for the second year in a row by defeating Iroquois on Wednesday night 65-43. The team's defensive focus allowed for limited scoring chances for Iroquois. Cam Brown led all scorers with 19 points. Jerome Shanklin had a near triple double with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists. 

     
    Congratulations to the team as they captured consecutive division titles for the first time since 1962-1963.

    January 15 vs Depew Loss 8 to 1 

    Good morning, Cheektowaga Chargers!

    We want to give a big shout-out to our Unified Bowling team for kicking off their season with a great match against Depew! While the team fell short, with a final score of 8 to 1, there were plenty of highlights to be proud of.

    Victoria Deane, Michael Hammond, Michael Taylor, Adrian Murphy, Devin Grunder, and Tyler Vong all bowled well above their season averages, showing tremendous effort and skill. It's clear that this season is off to a strong start!

    A special congratulations to Devin Grunder and Michael Hammond, who were each awarded the HEART Helmet for their unwavering perseverance and dedication. These athletes continue to push themselves to improve every time they step up to the lanes, and it truly shows in their performance.

    Keep up the great work, Chargers! We’re looking forward to the next match and can’t wait to see what’s ahead. Go Chargers!

    January 27 vs Alden Win 5 to 4 

    Good morning, Cheektowaga Chargers! We’ve got some exciting news from the Unified Bowling team. The Chargers came out on top, defeating Alden 5 to 4 in a thrilling matchup!

    There were some standout performances, including Jacob Malkowski, who posted a high game of 154, and Mike Hammond with a solid 153. Mike Domiano contributed with a 128, while Delayni Reese bowled a high game of 111. Giovanni Sanetick had a 93, and Jahmari Johnson had a great showing with a high game of 91.

    A special shoutout to Jahmari Johnson and Gigi Sanetick for earning the HEART helmet award for their outstanding effort and sportsmanship!

    Great job, Chargers – keep up the amazing work!

    January 30 vs Iroqouis - Loss 5 to 4 

    Good morning, Chargers!

    The Unified Bowling Team hit the lanes yesterday against our rivals, the Iroquois Red Hawks. Although they came up just short, falling 5-4, it was an exciting and hard-fought match!

    Big shout-out to our high bowlers:

    • Jacob Malkowski led the charge with a strong 136,

    • Mike Hammond right behind with a 130,

    • Delaynie Reese with a solid 118,

    • Angelo Sanetick with a 98,

    • Donell Jackson, who bowled a 105.

    Impressively, 9 of our team members bowled above their average—great job, everyone!

    Special congratulations to Rheagen Vance and Donnell Jackson for earning the HEART helmet award for their outstanding performance in the contest!

    February 4 vs Maryvale Win 6 to 3 

    Good morning, Chargers!

    The Chargers Unified Bowling Team took care of business in a big way, securing a 6-3 victory over our cross-town rivals, the Maryvale Flyers. A huge congratulations to our bowlers who helped lead the charge: Jacob Malkowski, Ryan Mitchell, Michael Damiano, Annabella Heskey, Katelyn Brennan, Devin Grundner, Micah Allen, and Olivia Threat. We had a strong showing with 10 bowlers finishing above their average, which is a testament to the hard work and dedication of this amazing team!

    And a special shoutout to Delaynie Reese and Olivia Threat for earning the HEART helmet award for their outstanding performances in tonight’s contest!

    Way to go, Chargers—keep up the great work!

    The Chargers Unified Bowling team faced a tough loss last night against a very strong Iroquois Red Hawks team. Despite the setback, we’re gearing up and fine-tuning our game as we prepare for the sectional tournament. We know this team has what it takes to bounce back stronger than ever!

    Top bowlers for the night included:

    • Jacob Malkowski with an impressive 150 in all three games

    • Angelo Sanetick with a solid 134

    • Mike Hammond with 118

    • Katelyn Brennen with 112

    • Tyler Vong with a 92

    • Caleb Janis with a 77

    Great work, everyone! The Chargers are focused and ready to get back in the win column when we take on West Seneca this Wednesday.

    A huge congratulations to Jacob Malkowski and Tyler Vong, who earned tonight’s HEART helmet award! Both of these gentlemen consistently display outstanding character and leadership every single day. Keep up the great work, guys!

    February 12 vs West Seneca Win 7 to 2 

    Big shoutout to the Chargers Unified Bowling team for an incredible victory over the West Seneca Trojans, finishing with a dominating score of 7-2! This win was especially impressive as 13 bowlers exceeded their average performances, contributing to the team's success.

    Team Highlights:

    • Jacob Malkowski led the way with an outstanding 465 three-game set, including a high game of 177.

    • Angelo Sanetick put up strong games with a 125 and 147.

    • Mike Hammond added a 122 game to the team total.

    • Parris Warren rolled a solid 96.

    • Donell Jackson bowled a 104.

    • Olivia Threat contributed with a 112.

    Special congratulations to Parris Warren and Victoria Deane, who earned the HEART Helmet Award for their standout efforts!

    The team wraps up regular-season play with Senior Night against Amherst on February 24th at 4:15 PM. Don’t miss it!

    Boys Basketball split a pair of non-league contests on Monday and Tuesday this week.  On Monday, the team defeated North Tonawanda by a score of 55-50. Team defense and a balanced scoring attack led the charge as the team ran their winning streak up to 11 games. Devin Baity registered 12 points & 7 rebounds. Abdi Sadik contributed 10 points and 9 rebounds.  On Tuesday, the team dropped a hard-fought game to Clarence by a score of 55-51. Three players recorded double-digit points as the team came up just short for their first loss since December.
     
    The team now stands at 12-3 on the season and remains in first place in ECIC 3.

    Boys Basketball ran their winning streak to 10 games this past Friday, defeating crosstown rival Maryvale 86-69.  The team was led by a balanced attack as 8 different players tallied at least 7 points. The team collectively tallied 22 assists, led by Dwayne Sykes 8.  Devin Baity paced the boards by collecting 10 rebounds in the victory.  

     
    The team is back in action with 3 games this week. Come out and support the team in its Tuesday match-up vs Clarence here at Cheektowaga. Tip off is scheduled for 7pm.

    Boys basketball secured three huge league wins over the past week.
     
    The boys defeated Lake Shore 64-58 prior to regents week. Jerome Shanklin led the charge with a career high 30 points, in addition to 7 rebounds and 7 assists.
     
    The boys then defeated West Seneca East on Saturday 78-60. Bench production was huge in this game as multiple players contributed to the 30 points off the bench, led by Adbi Sadik's 10.
     
    Then, on Monday, the boys defeated Lackawanna in a closely contested matchup, 60-54. 
     
    The team currently sits at 10-2, and maintains first place in the division with a perfect 7-0 record. The team is back in action on Friday vs Maryvale. Come out as we renew our annual rivalry.

    Boys Varsity Basketball rolled to a huge league win in Thursday's night game vs Pioneer.  The team defense in the 2nd quarter ignited a run that helped sustain and maintain the lead. The team was led by Dwayne Sykes 22pts. Jerome Shanklin added 17pts and 7 assists. Cruz Lucas contributed 6 rebounds off the bench. 

     
    The team looks to continue their winning streak with upcoming games vs West Seneca East, Lackawanna and Maryvale.

    This past weekend, the Indoor track team went in 2 separate directions.

    – some went to Nazareth College for the James Goss Invite and others went to Houghton for a divisional meet

    – both meets had very favorable results

    Here are some of them:

     

    Nazareth Invite

    • Myonna Smith – took 3rd place overall in the meet in the 55 m hurdles with a time of 8.43 – breaking her own school record – she also ran the 55 m dash – running a 7.62 and placing 17th
    • Myla Scott – took 17th in the LJ – out of 45 – leaping 15’ 11.5”

     

    • Bruk Terrell – took 11th place in the 55 m hurdles posting a time of 8.45 and ran the 300 m – posting a time of 38.92
    • Mekhi Dennis – took 10th place overall in the LJ with a jump of 20’ 4” – he also took 12th place in the 55 m hurdles – with a time of 8.52 and ran the 300 m – with a time of 40.98

     

    Houghton Divisional

    • Omani Douglas – ran a PB in the 55 m dash with a time of 7.98
    • Hannah Snead-Molinares – had a PB in the Weight throw – with a heave of 30’ 8”
    • Jocelynn Munoz – also threw a PB in the Weight – tossing it 29’ 9”

     

    • Rashed Shovon – had a PB in the 55 m – posting a time 8.13 as well as a PB in the 300 m – with a time of 47.41
    • Malik Ross – had PR in both the Weight – 38’ 11.5” - and the Shot – tossing it 33’ .5”
    • Cole Zimbardi – had  great day posting a time of 5:47.0 in the 1600 m run
    • Jaxon DuBard – had a HUGE PR in the Weight – throwing it 50’ 9”

    Boys Varsity Basketball secured a huge league victory over Lackawanna to remain unbeaten in league play. Dwayne Sykes scored a career high 24 points while knocking down 5 - 3 pointers! Devin Baity secured his first career double double with 15 points and 12 rebounds.  Cameron Brown added 14 points while Jerome Shanklin tallied 9 assists.

    The boys are back in action Tuesday night at home vs Pioneer. Come out and support the boys as they look to continue their winning ways.

    The Varsity Boys team secured a win by dominating Wednesday night vs East Aurora.  The team's full court defensive pressure ignited a scoring spree with 12 players entering the scoring books.  Jerome Shanklin led the way with 20 points and 12 assists. 
     
    Cameron Brown established his defensive presence by contributing 4 steals, in addition to his 12 point spark off the bench.  The boys are back in action on Friday vs Lackawanna

    Cheektowaga Boys basketball picked up a big league win on Tuesday night at Iroquois. The team's defensive intensity led the way in slowing down Western New York's leading scorer to 11points.  Jerome Shanklin and Dwayne Sykes led the way with 17 and 16 points respectively. The two also combined for 11 assists.  Cole McFarland came off the bench and nailed 3 triples to provide a shooting lift.
     
    The boys close out the week with games @ East Aurora and @ Lackawanna.

    The boys' basketball team opened league play with a win versus West Seneca East on Friday night. The team got off to a fast start and was able to secure the victory. 13 different players contributed to the scoring column, led by Brandon Dennis, who had a career-high 17pts.  Devin Baity and Abdi Sadik led the charge on the boards with 7 rebounds each. Dwayne Sykes added 5 assist and Jerome Shanklin contributed 4 steals.
     
    The team is back in action this week with road games.

    The boys bowling team lost a hard fought match to Maryvale to drop to 0 & 2.  Amari Daniels led the way for the A team with a 589 set and high game of 225.  8th grader Carter Ballard added a 505 with a high game of 189 and Micah Portolesi added a 504 with high game of 178.  The B team was led by Freshman Michael Fink who bowled a 525 with a high game of 201.  Dylan Walterich added a 153 and Evan Hanzlian added a 125 for the boys who will bowl Thursday at home against Cleve Hill.

    The girls bowling team upped their record to 2&0 with a 4 to 3, 148 pin victory over Maryvale.  9th grader Zion Wideman led the way for the B team with a 518 set including a huge 201 in the deciding game.  9th grader Taniah Tucker added a 510 with a 187 high game and 7th grader Zaniah Wideman added a 404 for the B team which took all 3 points.  The A team was led by Carlee Gorney's 417 set with a high game of 158.  Amali Ballard added a 157, Emma Gioia a 126 and 7th grader Aaliyah McClamb added a 199 in the deciding 3rd game.  The girls host Cleve Hill this Thursday at 3:30 at  Airport.

    The boys' bowling team opened their season with a tough home loss against Tonawanda.  Amari Daniels led the way for the "A" team with a 503 set and a high game of 200.  Micah Portolesi added a 476 set with a 168 high game and Carter Ballard added a 182.  The "B" team was led by Matt Abbey's 468 set with a high game of 170.  Michael Fink added a 180 and Evan Hanzlian chipped in with a 151 for the boys who bowl Maryvale Monday at Airport.

    The girls bowling team followed up their 5th place finish in the Maryvale Tourney with a 7 to nothing win over Tonawanda in their opening match.  8th grader Amali Ballard led the "A" team with a 423 set with a high game of 160.  Senior Carlee Gorney added a 152 and Sophomore Emma Gioia added a 132 to help the "A" team take all 3 points.  The "B" team, which also took all 3 points, was led by Freshman Zion Wideman, who bowled a 474 set with a high game of 186.  Freshman Taniah Tucker added a 443 with a 165 high game and 7th grader Zaniah Wideman added a 352 set with a high game of 121.  The girls' next match is Monday at Airport Lanes against Maryvale.

    The Charger's Unified Bocce team went 8-2 in the culminating tournament yesterday.  Ben, Peter, Angelo, and Victoria dominated their opponents, going 2-0.  Charlie, Tyler, Gigi, and Jahmari also went 2-0. This team had the comeback match of the day. They were down 2 points going into the end with time running out. They needed 2 points to tie, they focused and worked together as a team to seal 3 points and get the victory to clinch first place.  Ryan, Brennan, Olivia, and Mike D also went 2- 0. This team was down 5 to 0 and rallied to win 7 to 5.

    Congratulations to Ben Sniatecki for earning the tournament sportsmanship award and to Angelo Sanetick and Caleb Janis for earning the team HEART.

    On Tuesday, our girls' tennis team competed against Iroquois in a great first match of the season. Gianna Barbario came out on top in her match, taking down her competitor 7-4 in a battle of the deuces.  Maryam Muhammad did a great job competing in her first singles match, displaying exemplary serving skills.  Amirah Proctor and Eva Tran did a great job in their doubles match, attacking the net and displaying great communication as a duo.  The team looks forward to competing on Friday against Lake Shore.
