CCHS Student Named August 2022 Volunteer of the Month
The Cheektowaga Y.E.S. (Youth Engaged in Service) Program has selected Cheektowaga Central High School student, Jonathan Douglass, as August Volunteer of the Month.
Since enrolling in the Y.E.S. program last fall, Jonathan has given over 20 hours of his time to assist with a variety of community service projects throughout Cheektowaga. He’s often showing off his creativity and artistic abilities while leading family craft nights or face painting children during holiday events.
Jonathan is an intelligent, polite, and mature individual who is always resourceful and gets things started at activities. He checks guests in or begins distributing craft supplies without needing direction.
The extra effort he puts in to take responsibility for himself does not go unnoticed. During a family craft night, he realized that he double booked himself on his calendar. While he already had a prior engagement and could have cancelled his Y.E.S. activity, he followed through on his commitment and came at the end of the event to assist with clean up.
As an advocate for the Y.E.S. program, Jonathan has recruited his friends to join. He made it a point to attend new volunteer orientation with them and took the initiative to introduce them to the other volunteers.
The Y.E.S. program is very fortunate to have him as part of the program.
ABOUT CHEEKTOWAGA Y.E.S.
The Cheektowaga Youth Engaged in Service (Y.E.S.) program gets teens out of the house and meeting new people while making a difference in the community.
Volunteers make crafts with children, cook meals for families at the Grace Guest House, pack groceries at the St Stephens food pantry, assist with holiday events and more. Not only does Y.E.S. provide service hours required for graduation, it’s an opportunity to make friends, gain leadership skills and provide a sense of accomplishment -- plus it also looks great for college and job applications!
